Post-Operative Instructions of Crown/Veneer/Denture

  • Do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours after cementation.
  • It is recommended to eat soft nourishments in the first few days, and then gradually return to normal eating.
  • If the dentist recommends a night guard, it is important to use it every night to protect and prolong the life of your crowns/veneers. Make sure to keep the night guard clean to prevent bacteria buildup and maintain its effectiveness.
  • Gums need about 1 month to adjust to the new crowns/veneers. To speed up the adaptation process, use mouthwash regularly and brush with an up-down motion. Over time, your gums will cover the border of your crowns, but regular cleaning is essential.
  • Just like the gums, your tongue will also need about 1 month to get used to the new crowns/veneers. After the adaptation period, speaking, eating, or drinking will become more comfortable. Reading aloud will help speed up this process.
  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day and use dental floss or water floss once a day. Failure to do so can lead to food particles and bacteria causing infection and bad breath.
  • Do not eat hard objects (e.g., cracking nuts, opening bottles, etc.). If you do so, there is a risk of dislodging your crowns/veneers or damaging your real teeth. Avoid biting and pushing motions for life.
  • After a root canal treatment, some pain or sensitivity is normal as the roots heal. Painkillers or “Sensodyne Rapid Relief” are recommended in this period.
  • Avoid chewing gum, sunflower seeds, or anything sticky as it may cause your crowns/veneers to loosen.
  • If you use dentures, ensure that you follow your dentist's instructions after cementation. Regular check-ups and cleaning every 6 months are required for the warranty of your dentures. Keep the receipt or doctor's report signed by the dentist performing the check-up.
